Hi,
I am looking into getting Sebastien Murat ( Sub7Seas Freediving Grand-Prix ) over to the UK in April to run a 2 day advanced freediving course. It will be pool and classroom based and run over 2 days. As well as FRC diving it will also cover many other aspects of watermanship, safety, SWB prevention and physiology.
Location will be London or South Coast, dates are being worked out, costs will depend slightly on location and numbers (but it will be very good value:) )
It is at the planning stage at the moment, so if you may be interested, or would just like more info, please PM or email me
cheers

Just FYI guys and gals - I offered to host this at Chepstow but apparently it's too cold for the great man in our lovely lake!!

I'm familiar with the Chepstow set-up. The questions is whether the vis. is good enough for me to see you and you to see me, or indeed anyone to see anyone else?

Otherwise no problems

Seb

PS: Nothing great, and I should know!

Some of the lakes/quarries in the UK have tremendous visibility like Dorothea.

Sebastian,

You might want to try vobster quarry, it has had 8 m vis, (green water vis) all the times I have been there. A nice place, lines to 25m, lots of attraction to see between 8 and 25m and 8m deep cliffs / walls from the edge of the quarry, on a good day you look up and see the suns rays and tree above from 8m drop offs .

Have a word with Jean Marc (jayhem) from the BFA he will be able to give you some information, or post about it on the BFA forum, as you have for the pool course.

Tim

PS when where and how much?

If it's that cold in your quarries I think your brain might freeze-up and then we'd be there till Xmas instead of 2-days!

Seb

Nah, it was toasty in salt free last weekend with Sam, some great diving again 8m vis clear emerald green waters, the sun was out, we were in swimming costumes. OK i lie was a tad chilly in 5mm, but hey if it doesnt kill you......

really? How are you familiar with it? I've never seen you over here! Not really fair to pass negative comment on something you haven't experienced....

Sam,

I think you're too quick off the mark to :rcard me!

As you're no doubt aware the center as a pretty comprehensive site regarding the conditions, set-up, resources and facilities they offer at the quarry. I don't run courses on the fly, here or there, without checking all pertinent details before hand. Though it may be an appropriate lovcation for staging courses with a half-dozen or so divers, in my experience (and I've run a few of these courses now in some pretty cold and poor vis., e.g., Finland & Sweden to know) that just myself instruction ~15 or so people is and will be problematic. As I don't know anyone in the UK (personally) with EAR/CPR/O2 qualifications as well as extensive freediving + divemastering experience I would't have the support I require to adequately oversee these numbers; no doubt, however, it would be about 800 GBP cheaper to stage it there as opposed to Crystal Palace.

Seb

PS: By the way, I'm quite certain you've never offered/invited me to run a clinic in the UK , as you seem to suggest in your earlier post, unless you indirectly proposed it to Dave ......in which case I apologize.

OK - well I and indeed most of us who dive at SaltFree have all of those qualifications, so if you'd asked, we could have delivered. We also have all the kit on site.

The pontoon is 12m squared, we have four freedive lines, scuba deco line and trapeze and have run some pretty big events there in the past... There is a large classroom on site and pools five minutes away...

and yes, I did propose it to Dave when I heard he was looking for somewhere.

anyhow, too late now.

Sam,

Initially, I was tempted to speak my mind, but that would have been too easy for me, and anyway my mama taught me if you've nothing good to add best to say nothing at all, at least out of respect for everybody else who might be listening in.

Hmm, I am not quite sure if this is a gentle or an arrogant answer, but maybe you misunderstand each other. As far as I understood, Sam just proudly proposed the SaltFree location for a course and wanted to make clear that the facility has possibilities you may not be aware of. Everyone can understand that you may prefer the S.E.T.T., but there is no reason for starting to argue with each other and going into offense. Though, I prefer hoping I misinterpreted the tone, and that the dialog was just a gentle joking and not a starting argument :)

thank you Trux -my thoughts exactly. I'm proud of what we have at SaltFree and merely offered it as a location - I didn't expect abuse in turn...

anyhow he lost himself at least one customer!

Guys I like both of you but this is starting to blow out out proportion and there's no need for this sort of talk, it's not adding value to either of your causes. Let's just leave it alone now.

For what it's worth, i'm probably one of the only people on the planet that have both dived at Chepstow and done Sebastien's course.

Sebastien's course is excellent and will change your perspective on freediving. It has definitely made me a better freediver and I would recommend it to anyone.

Chepstow is one of the best and safest facilities around for freediving - good vis on most days, water temps comparable to sea in summer, no currents, a great pontoon, scuba cover by a great team, counterweight system when scuba not available, and a relatively cheap dive. I love diving there and encourage all that I know to dive there as well.

Cheers,
Ben

Come on gals and guys .. we are all family here in DB .. one BIIIIIIG family .. :) .. now misunderstanding happens between brothers and sisters all the time, it just needs to be resolved .. I hope S&S (for Seb and Sam) will do that through PMs and shake hands back here .. after all there is nothing fundementaly wrong between the two of you, from my reading it's just a simple misunderstanding .. come on both .. give us a smile .. :inlove

Hi Dave!
I have an event here in Dubai between 10th and 13th April :head , so maybe I could travel to UK late night on 13th, do you think I could ever make it to the course ?! .. what is the schedule and how early we should be there ?

Hi Adolphin, I'm a Dave too, but an entirely different one, so I can't answer that message... but regarding the other one:

In this brief intermission of the "DB Family Love Match",
I'll share another snippet from my Songs on the Beach collection, but
since I have neither a microphone nor a soundcard, just a broken speaker, you'll all have to tune in with your dolphinian telepathic sonar to hear it, anyway here's it:
======================================
Without Brothers and Sisters, how would we feel?
Like packing up a picnic, with no one to share the meal.

They carry us around, before putting us down,
make us reach out for the stars, yet keep our feet on the ground.

So if things get kind of crazy, and life just don't seem fair,
and when you hit the bottom, baby, don't forget your teddy bear

Because that's what teddy bears are for,
when loved ones have gone through the door

Yeah, that's what teddy bears are for,
when loved ones have gone through the door

And that's what wings and prayers are for.

from Wings, Prayers and Teddy Bears by me.:)
[OK, back to regular scheduled program]
