Hey guys,

I've been an F.I.I. level 1 free diver since September 2013 and I've had a hard time finding other free divers in the area. Currently diving in the Laguna Beach/San Clemente areas. I'd like to start doing depth training, apnea training, spearfishing, Catalina trips, dive trips, etc.

Anyone in the area feel free to shoot messages or emails my way!

Check out some of your local spearfishing clubs. Either the Long Beach Neptunes, or LA Fathomiers. There might be some further south in San Deigo as well. Probably won't find a lot of people interested in line diving but for spearing you can get local info and get some dive/hunting buddies.

I think you'll find that there are not many pure freedivers in your area. There are lots of of us who are free dive spear fisherman, but very few line divers.

One of my dive buddies does train in the pool with a group in Costa Mesa, and now and then goes out to Catalina to line dive. I'll try to get some information from him.

I don't think the Neptunes or Fathomiers will be much help for free diving, although they would provide an entry into spearfishing. . I do know one guy who is a member of one of the clubs (but I forget which one) who recently set the Australian record for distance in a pool (whatever that discipline is called) but he is also a professional actor and just got a role in a TV series, so I'm not sure how often he will be attending meetings.
