History
This is a shallow water area that can hold a few surprises, many years ago Jonce Weedon of the Sussex club won a national here with 9 Bass between 6 & 9lbs. He was drifting around in the middle of the string weed banks that can be prolific at this time of year and came across a shoal that were quite happy to tuck themselves under the weed. Another year it was won with a big catch of Rays up to 15lbs. Southsea club dive last season (2007) the winner caught 14 Bass and mullet no more than 100mts from the start, fishing on the edge of the trench. Also the British record Smooth Hound of 15lbs was caught off the Mixon Bar, a reef of small rocks that dry a mile out to sea. It’s a early start to suit the tides but look on the bright side it will give you more time to talk to some of the top spearos in the country and you will get home early.
