Even if he is breathing normal air the fact that he is under a few feet of water causes an effect of a higher partial pressure of O2. Small yes, but say 1 meter of depth=110% of normal partial pressure. So it would be like breathing 23% O2 for a week, his tissues would be completely saturated as if he had breathed 100% for a few minutes. I think we have all seen people hold for 8+ min after pure O2.
