I read about that this morning. It's a beautiful area around Byron but it is a little sharky, there's been some attacks before. I remember a scuba diver was taken a few years ago of Julian Rocks, and only a couple of years ago a spearfisherman was bitten on the thigh by what was though a Grey Nurse Shark. Though to be fair I remember the guy had a fish on his stringer pretty close to his body, if not tied on. It's unusual for a GWS to be pestering people around there though.

I think this story shows the true nature of many of these predators 'attacks' on people. By my calculations a 2.5 meter GW with its standard predatory ability + a desired human of <2m = a dead human at least 95% of the time. Give or take a bit.
Glad she fought it off as it shows the beast that human tasting is unprofitable. Sounds like a relatively young fishy just testing out its world and abilities. Not unlike, perhaps, a spearo 'trying' a first 10kg eel. Loved that eel forum!
