BTW was William using a lanyard? I cannot see one...Or is just very thin?
 
No he was not. But then again he had Umberto as his extreme deep safety ;-)
 
Isn't it required by AIDA rules? Or wasn't it an AIDA sanctioned attempt?
 
You don't need to use a lanyard for record attempts, only for competitions. However, if you don't have a lanyard, you need a scuba diver on the bottom, whereas with a lanyard, and a counterbalance, you are not required to have a diver right at the bottom.
