Shock or punch factor, spear comparison .

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.

This is an empirical index attempting to qualify the "shock effect" of spears relative to each other. The scores for each spear is basically their momentum modified for the different diameters. My own experience on largish fish is pretty consistent with the comparison in the matrix & it would be interesting to hear others opinions based upon their own experiences.

Yes, different spearhead diameters will change the score. Also, this isnt about the sectional density or the penetration of a spear. It is simply about comparing how much shock effect different spears have when the brain or vitals are missed. Also, spears with a very high shock effect from oversize spearheads usually have a relatively low sectional density (penetration). This is the score for each spear when at its highest sectional density.

Interesting mix of metric and imperial measurements, decimals and fractions. I'm guessing you are American :) For those not blessed with being American

1" = 25.4mm ;)

BTW Distinguished forum member Rob Allen has done a lot of experimentation with spears some of it posted and discussed elsewhere on this forum.
