Hi everybody, this year i wish to try for the first time some blue water hunting targetting blue fin tunas. Size varies alott here but many times tunas of 80kg were spotted in my area.
What shooting line will be best for this setup ?
I have the 2mm black mono line (400lb) and the 2.2mm clear mono line (500lb). I feel that the weak point will be when the line enters the hole at the end of the spear. Also i thought of using 2mm dyneema breaking strain 220kg but I am afraid that the line gets entangled more easyly than mono line , with the rubbers when shooting.
Any suggestions please ??
Thanks and regards

Personally I would stick with the 500lb mono. Having used 2mm dyneema in the past, I would not go down that path again.
If you need something with more abrasion resistance for those long fights, dont give up on dyneema completely. I have some 3mm stuff I got from Neptonics for wishbones, and it is working remarkably well as a shooting line. The breaking strain rating is ott, but you can never have too strong a line.

A fish like that would be a good match for a Wooden Gun. Sounds like you are using a Euro? Normally we use a Chafing Sleeve around 5OOlb Mono which will fit inside the hole of the Sharkfin on the Shaft.

Cable, dont use anything else.

For this application I agree, and make sure you have a knife and a back up that can cut wire rope. I use a serrated knife I bought from a great little company in Florida.

Cheers, Don Paul

Yes, Like Don says, safety first, also test your gear for the weak
link, dont wait to kill/loose a fish and find out something was weak or
damage, they will really test your gear and find that weak link.
