Short-shaft setups?

Greetings from the Med.
I have recently modified a Trygons DMFR's enclosed track (DIY all the way!) from 6,75mm to somewhere around 7 However my 7mm shaft is quite short and the barb will not close properly.
As a result, I have 2 alternatives: use barb (looking down), which will stay constantly open in a loaded gun OR close the barb an rest it on the tip of the gun.

Did anyone have experience with "constantly open barb?" Should I stick to that alternative or keep the barb closed, which, will increase height of a shaft tip when the gun is loaded.

I would leave the barb open. Better aiming and accuracy. It's normal with a Hawaiian barb that's open.
If it's still an enclosed track it might not be possible to "lift" the spear in the track.
I think the best thing will be to make the barb shorter so it can close.
It will be a problem if you want to stab flatties, if the barb is locked or cannot close...

The funny things is, that even tho the shaft was supposed to be "enclosed" - it never was. Back when it was 6,75 enclosed track, I could simply slide a 6,75mm shaft into the shaft track from the top.

Whenever I go diving, I will try to to use both setups to get a better "feeling" and later share my thoughts

Oh, I see... like a "semi enclosed" track. Then I think the easiest thing to do is to change the barb position from below the shaft to above the shaft (Tahitian).
