Together with a friend we finally decided to get Elios suits. Diving in 13C water in cheap 3 mil scuba suits was definitely a bit too chilly :t . But we are not sure how to make this one measurement correct - shoulder breadth. I watched the videos, searched on the net, but are not any smarter afterwards.

I'm kind of skinny on the shoulders, so I have tips of a bone sticking out a little bit on top of shoulders. Should the measurements be taken as distance of these tips? Or a bit further outwards, there is the end of the shoulder joint. I can feel the "hard mass" end there in almost right angle. Should it be measured from this point?

The first method gives 37 cm, the second 42 cm which is quite a difference.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

As far as I know it should be taken from end of shoulder blade to other end, there where the seams of a tight t-shirt would sit. Where the shoulder starts moving into the arm.

deepthought -- i like the t-shirt example.

thedude --

for my elios suit, my girlfriend and i finally decided to take the outside of the last bone on the top of the shoulders when it came to this particular measurement. i expect this would be closer to the wider of your two measures.

also, i figured that it would be better to have slightly more room through the shoulders than slightly too little in this dimension (although with the flexibility of a nice suit this is likely a moot point).

i do suggest taking ALL the measurements a couple of times just to be sure---even with the videos it is difficult to know exactly what they want. i got my mom to do a second set of measurements, and where her's and my gf's differed, did one final check to be sure. when i finally sent the numbers into elios i think my gf had had more than enough of all the measuring business.

actually, elios told me that i screwed up the back measurement (the one from the first vertebrae to the anus) and the forearm measurement. so i redid them (my girlfriend almost peed herself laughing whilst trying to remeasure my anus) and sent in different numbers---not entirely sure if what i was doing was better but they seemed happier with the numbers. obviously, it is good to have these master italian tailors watching our backs.

i will report back to you regarding the fit when i get my suit at the end of this month.

cheers,

ps. just in case you missed it, in most cases, there are videos of both a man AND a woman for each measurement (although only sometimes actually helping to figure out what was wanted).

Thanks guys for your replies. We just did another measuring session today, there are two of us ordering the suits. I think we already got the shoulders measured right (at least I hope so). We took the widest measure we made. But as in your case, the back measurement is a hard nut as well. I did find both videos on their page, but they are too small to clearly see what are the endpoints (especially the anus :) ) My girlfriend is already going mad with all this measuring, I don't think she will measure me once again rofl :chatup

So it seems we will also rely on the italian master tailors and their judgment of the numbers...
