I am feeling sorry for myself and so over this head cold it's not funny :(

I have had it for two weeks now, have not felt well enough to go to training as I have either had a completely blocked nose/chest congestion, a running non-stop nose and now at the tail end of the cold, still blowing my nose incessantly and when I do, my ears block.

So, I have decided that probably not wise to go to dynamics tonight - sensible or over reaction? What else can I do? Should I try some dry statics or just do nasal rinses and focus on getting completely over it? Would it be safe enough to go to statics on Thursday?

It is VERY frustrating. I've not even felt up to going for a run or cycle for a week and half and suffering from endorphin withdrawal and it is making me quite grumpy!

Can any one relate to this?!

take it easy Ms Mer, commisserations! get out for a run/bike and de-snot when you feel up to it, you'll feel better for it... :)

Weather in Sydney at the moment is sub-sh*t! I feel terrible but I don't actually mind. I very rarely get sick and I actually like how I can just use it as an excuse to chillax!:D I don't mean as an excuse to give other people, I just mean an excuse for myself. I usually can't stnad still for more than a minute without having the immense urge to do something. At least now, in my current state, I simply can't do anything so I just sleep and read!

Since the mucus is loose, I think you can enjoy dynamics, provided you prevent squeeze by snorting the mucus down the throat in between dives. Also make sure you keep the chlorine out of the nose. After the dive have plenty vitamin C,D and recovery drinks, keep a cap on to keep the head warm and get in bed early. I think sensible exercise helps the body to sweat out the disease.

But isn't it funny how we feel withdrawal symptoms of not freediving?

There were plenty of times I felt rubbish, exhausted, feverish you name it and against all odds decided to go for pool training and take it really easy. Every single time I felt a million times better after training - particularly when I was feeling feverish the coldish pool water seemed to do wonders!

Apnea probably should have made me get worse but it never did.

I recently had about a month and a half out of the pool. Had a parasite, the joys of life.

Cold water (showers or immersions) is your best friend when you have persistent colds. No-no, its not funny, its true. You don't wait until times when you get better, start taking cold showers right in the middle of your sickness. Not a wussy little cold water sprinkle, but a serious flow of very cold water, head and shoulders, big dump from a bucket full. Simptoms will get worse for a day but then you will feel a heluva lot better. And interestingly enough, after a few of such showers, say a week or two of occasional torture, your cold will be gone for at least couple years. But then you simply repeat the routine once in a while.

From reading the last post perhaps you should go and immerse yourself in the ocean.
Who knows being a MER Miss it might make you feel a bit betterer:D

That sounds horrendous but I am willing to give anything a go to have it gone. Have tried nasal rinses and can't inhale the saline so will get a neti pot or similar to flush the sinuses too.

Thankyou SQMerman for your suggestion. As you know I'm a hop and a skip away so perhaps a swim out in the bay huh. The sea always makes me feel betterer - my octopus's garden:D

I don't know how scientifically correct that is - it could just have a placebo affect however I have found the same thing. It's a bit agonising but it works:D
