Hello!

I'm looking for freediving watch with ONLY stopwatch and depthmeter with scale min. -50m (either in bar or -m). Diving computer is too much for me (I don't need all that stuff) and I'm tired of making knots on the rope so I can see (or better feel) where I am :blackeye

Any suggestions (except D3)?

Theres a couple options for you. One is to get the "swatch fun Scuba" watch. Which only tells time, but reverts to a depth meter when you hit water. Or you can do what I did and use a regular stopwatch <$40, and get a scuba depth gauge which will be about $70. That method is only really cost effective if you already have the watch though.

But if you want the honest truth, if I could do it all again I would start off with something from Suunto, whether it be a Mosquito or D3/4, or whatever else is out there.

Hope this aids you in your decision. A depth gauge is definitely crucial and once you have it you realize how far you can expand your training as well as your safety.

Happy diving! -John

heh, heh - as far as I know D4 would cost me ~400€??
do I look like I wan the lottery lately? :D

serious... thank you for the advice.
my dives are way below 70% of capabilities and there is no pushing on the results. the depth is "crusial" for me only because of my curiosity.
since I'm not training for world championship it seems ridiculous to buy some good stuff only for "war colours". price is, of course, another unpleasant factor... (I even have old slow scuba fins, but they will hold... :D )

for those and some similar reasons I'd like a bit cheaper watch (then D4). so, if I'd feel like going on with competitions and buy something better... u never know... but bankrupcy is definitely not in my planes :D

P.S.: scuba watches are not "my stile". i like silence down there and it would probably "read" too fast ascending (or not)?? squealing is beside the point :D what if it throws an anchor to slow me down? :D

well... um... what about both options in one peace? :D OK, i'm annoying, I know... :t

I have to buy a new watch as well, old one only holds "5bar" (in theory)
100m or 200WR watches are not really so cheap...
(I have been told that watch will hold less than it is written on it, though I never tried :D )

c'mon, I can't believe there is no watch for ~200eur (300usd)

D3 has some difficulties:
- is out of production (if there is anything wrong with it you don't get a new one. thay can only offer you to pay more and get a mosquito or D4)
- 3 friends of mine had troubles (it got stuck in dive mode) and I know only one (in person!) that had no problems  eh?

on the other hand, lots of guys says D3 is OK - but it still has "bad reputation" for me in some way... that's why I wrote no D3 in 1. post. I think I'd prefer something else :)

I have heard those same things, I guess maybe it's hit or miss. You can pick up that gauge I linked you and any old water resistant watch with a timer on it. Should work fine, and be the best bang for the buck. Good Luck!

i have the cressi edy. absolutely love it. its got the freedive, the dive and all that. perhaps a few more features than you really want (i know i dont use some), but i love it, and its just a touch above that ~$300 you were mentioning.

Cressi-Sub Edy Wrist Computer from LeisurePro.com

although not sure where to find it in your area :p

Crazys13: older D3 were OK (they say...). D3's made before production was shut down are having some issues. So I decided I don't like it :D

drunkinbda, that's more like it. I see there is "special price" :t
Finding it - ha ha - no problem. My home is 700ft from italian border. I can order it, or just make a walk.
Seems like a nice watch, I'll check that out. Funny I never thought of cressi.

ah ya the edy 2. only heard about it. could you not find the regular edy?

sure did...

$622 in regular shop or $400 on (italian) ebay... :D

and - holy cow!!! - I just found out leisurepro is shipping to my very own country (I could check that before) :duhwith shipping cost $83 is still cheaper then buying it here :rcard
but that is still $420... :-( not fair

:D
