I am going on week three of the most horrible time in my "diving" life...i have been consistently going spearfishing every day for so long it wasnt even funny to my wife. All other hobbies have been pushed out of my life. I have been training for this years spearfishing competition so hard and now three weeks before the comp my sinuses go caput (rose colored snot stuff and equalizing "bubbling" pain) My unit's diver doc said it is sinusitis and gave me that nasal steroid flonase stuff and i have been out of the water for almost a week that means pool/snorkeling/rainshowers everything....... with another 10 days before the competition. An words of wisdom....any hope of competing this year? Advice on expediting the healing process would be very greatly appreciated.

Salt and Bicarb in water, don't know exactly how much, but my mum swears by it, put maybe a teaspoon of bicarb and half a teaspoon of salt in about 100ml maybe a bit less and dissolve it. Put it in a nasal spray bottle and hey presto, oh and you can use it all the time it won't mess you up or dry anything out or make your nose bleed. 3 times daily for the next week and fingers crossed you'll be right as rain. Let us know how you go?

Youre my hero man. I will keep everyone posted.

P.S. Your mom is tougher than i am....that sh@@T BURNS!

Maybe you need some more water? lol I may have got the dilution a little wrong:blackeye it should tingle a little not burn!

There's a product called Neilsmed sinus rinse. It's a plastic bottle that pushes the liquid through your nostrils (in one, out the other). They make sachets with the right amount of salt and bicarb for a bottlefull. You can do the rinse before using the Flonase. I've just cleared up a similar case. It took me around 5 weeks but I kept diving the whole time. If you do dive before it's cleared up use a Sudafed tablet.

Sudafed....my savior. I am diving again as good as new, flonase+sudafed an hour before i dive. Clear as a whistle. Just in time for the Marianas Spearfishing tournament. I will post some pics if i get lucky. Thanks for all of the great advice everyone!
