SK boy, new to the sport, confused as every about guns

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Never had a problem with crossing the border. When I asked the border crossing guards (first gun I brought I drove across) they said over 18" and rubber band, no issues. And being the Mako gun I got is more like 40" or whatever they just looked it over, said it was cool, and charged me GST and off I went. The other 2 guns I've had mailed USPS or UPS and both had zero issues coming across.

So, BC or not, you should be good to go!

K cool! Thanks guys! Any suggestions on thickness of suit? and does it matter if it's camo? Does that make a big difference?

I have a Akona 7mm farmer john style, so chest area is actually pushing 14mm thick and gotta say it's nice and warm! But we also go spearing in fairly cold waters, like 2C to 15C or for the US folks in the crowd 35F to 59F

Generally for the cold water it's awesome, but when summer hits and the weathers warm I usually don't wear any wetsuit or just a thin 3mm or something. I'm still not good enough to really be diving deep so thin works well for me, but if I was diving deeper you can really tell it gets alot colder alot quicker.

Camo I don't think really makes a difference, at least not for my fish since I'm no where near the ocean black works fine for my freshwater.
