Hi ,
I am after advice on all things SMB. Such as product recommendation, rigging and usage. Can anyone help? The majority of dives I complete are inshore reefs and off headlands in Cornwall.

Thanks

Torpedo floats are popular. 15 - 25 meters of line on a winder tied to the front. a drop weight that you can either clip to the weightbelt or tuck under the wetsuit OR no drop weight and attach the line to the speargun.

Most manufacturers make torpedo floats. Beaver do a cheap one for around £12 - £15 seac do a big orange torpedo with an outer skin for about £30. the vast majority are supplied with an Alpha flag ( blue and white) but some are supplied with the international red and white flag.

If you have the money and you can find one the DIVE HUNTER is a fantastic bit of kit. Loads of storage space and you can rest on top when you get tired.

I tried to find a dive huter or a seyvlor reef 120 but they're like hens teeth! so I ended up with a best hunter from Decathalon.
I bought it online from the Surrey Keys store which is designated supplier for our reigon, It was a bit of a faf to order but got there in the end.
It seams like a good float but I'm no expert in the matter and I only use it at certain marks. When I'm fishing close in "rock crawling" I don't tend to bother. If you want a look or borrow it for a dive you're more than welcome.

Thanks for the replies: Just lately have a had a few boats/jets skis nearby and know I really need to cover my ass!

I tried using a floatie when I first started because everyone else said you should but like scallywag above I don't bother anymore - they're just another bit of kit to lug around and worry about. To be even more contentious and honest I'm really only after Quicksilver (Bass & Mullet) and 99% of them I take in the shallows and well away from w******s in speed boats and jet ski's who wouldn't know the difference between a floatie and a crab pot buoy anyway - or care! Just keep doing 360's on the surface whilst earholing for engine's. Having said that though as scallywag points out they can be invaluable for specific dives & competitions of course - which really don't interest me anyway - I'm after dinner!
