I did post a little thread somewhere. One of the things I tried was a weight vest and that turned out to be ione of my best investments ever.
...

Dave

I was thinking the Seacsub vest Caccia with Omer flat weights. Which vest do you have and what type of weights? Thanks!

Great posts Bill & OMD, still picking up new ideas. That covered top of Bill's is v. similar to that of the super soft, short SCUBA emergency snorkel I tried to describe -- looks like a good idea to me. As does OMD's home made snorkel extension - I hate when choppy water sneaks over the top into the snorkel - surprise! Splutter, splutter.

I am not surprised Dave choose a cheap snorkel. I got one very cheap from Procella on ebay (prob. < £2) before they went bankrupt - but it looks v. professional with black tube & clear mouth piece, orange tip. It is the best snorkel I have used in the pool. Unfortunately it is designed for youths - so it is a little too short to be used in the sea. It also has a slightly smaller bore than normal but it seemed to work well for me - even though I have a very high measured lung capacity - and clear very quickly & easily, as might be expected.

I'll second the Beuchat Tubair (Activa) I think its also called.
Yes, that's the one I use. I would have got one of the flexible Omer Zooms but all the Zooms seemed very overpriced to me [you can usually get a decent J for $2 on Amazon - which made $36/£18 (at the time) seem beyond the pale]. The Tubair was half the price & seemed just as good. There is another company that does a v. similar snorkel to the basic & camo Zooms but cheaper I think it is called Samurai (Sporasub perhaps?).

...Then I got an Omer Zoom when I started freediving. It breathes SO much better. ...
I do have some issues with clearing all the water out and sometimes have to pinch the base of the snorkel to clear all the water...
Almost missed your post ILDiver - is this the Omer Zoom? I sometimes get an annoying droplet left in the bend of my Beuchat Activa Tubair, which rattles when you breath over it. I hadn't thought about pinching the tube. Will give it a try nice time it occurs. [Will give out rep. when next permitted].

Yeah, I don't know why it will not clear sometimes. If I get it all out the first shot it's fine. But if I do not blast it enough and it leaves some, it's almost impossible to clear that remaining bit. So pinching the lower J portion where it's soft allows enough pressure I guess. I don't pinch it completely closed of course, but enough so the air can't get past over the water sitting in there.

The long snorkel would lead to issues over a long period. The snorkel would be holding more exhaled gas and reducing the amount of O2 your getting. Unless it had in inlet and exhaust seperate. Then clearing it...

The hose to a tethered diver would be a hookah sort of rig I would guess, supplying air, but exhalation goes into the water like scuba . That is if I understand correctly what you describe.

Thanks ILDiver, that is what I was thinking of. I removed the section of text concerned from my post as OMD pointed out that it raises a number of serious safety issues & devices involved -- I didn't want to get too far off topic.

hi guys i`m new here and late hehehehehe. i used to own a snorkel with purge valve and it worked great that is until the purge starts leaking and it annoys me even if i spit the snorkel before going down, i now have a nemrod j type i think it`s made in spain and i think it is not produced anymore.. for me the fewer working parts, the simplier the better. take care guys
