So hey guys, I'm new to the sport and I have a few questions, some of which you may find funny.

1.Firstly equalizing, something i cannot seem to master. People tell me pinch your nostrils and blow out. dont get my wrong it works but not all the time. It is also alot of hassle when you are holding a gun in your hand. I was wondering if anybody could properly explain the normal or any other techniques to me in detail.

2. My dad used to spearfish about 30 years ago and thus I sorta inherited all of his stuff. one of these was a pneumatic gun made by a company called GSD, which if i'm not mistaken has gone bankrupt. I lost the spear about two days ago(the tip came loose and i didnt notice the spear falling :C) and I was wondering if I would be able to replace it with a common day shaft?

3. If it could be replaced is there some method of overhauling it as it is pretty underpowered.

4. I want to buy a proper gun within the next few months, I live in malta which is south of sicily and will mostly be hunting along the coast. It is hard to see a decent sized fish but the problem is that when I do I can never get close enough with my current gun. I have used an Omer Cayman and found that its range is also a little low. Another friend of mine purchased a beauchat marlin(dual band). It seems alright but I was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions.

Sorry for all the questions guys would appreciate any feedback you have to offer. Thanks all

Hi jeanaz, sorry i cant help you much with the pneumatic gun. i always use band guns. have you looked at the Mako spearguns? they are a great gun for the money.a 110-120 will give you a good shot. as far as equalizing, i had a problem with the hold your nose thing too. I tried and tried and it did nothing but hurt like hell, just didnt work for me. then by accident i was clearing my throat and just swallowed and it eq'd my ears! kinda cool tho, now i have both hands free to swim and fish. so give it a try and see if it works for you. pm me anytime and ill be glad to help with what i can. dive safe!

Hey Speargunhunter,

Great news! I popped by my local shop and apparently my spear can be replaced with abit of modding. so i'm thrilled about that! Unfortunatley in malta there isnt an agent for the brand Mako. So i was thinking of going for an Omer HF2. I've heard good things about it but it is a tad expensive around 250 euros. Do you think its worth it?

I just got the basic omer cayman and it rocks! The hf2 is definately on my list of to buy guns next.
