Different sort of thing but I went and saw the Earl Scruggs Review back when I was a youngster - completely blew my mind about country. Nobody touches JC - AMAZING Lyics and presence - what he's got didn't come easy.
Take a walk on the wild side - Lou Reed (to say the least!)
Louie Louie - Iggy Pop's Cover " ... there's a sweet little thing, she's-waitin'-for-me but I'm as bent Dos-toy-ev-ski.."
Don't dream it's over - Neil Finn (where to start!)
Brother Ray - Robert Plant ('Trance Mix' of 'Shine it all Around')
Icarus - Oregon (one particular version - which I can't seem to find!) written by Ralph Towner
Shankar (not Ravi) Ragam:Sankarabharanam (double violin, voice and tamboura)
Somewhat arbitrary list however. Five is not possible

Also my son has taken all the covers off all my cds - so I can't look up the titles.
Laibach's version of 'Sympathy for the Devil' in german deserves honorable mention - if only for an almost unbelieveable crystallization of the intent - however cracked.
Best DVD so far goes to Neil Finn for '7 Worlds Collide'.
Bowie's Cover of the 'Under Pressure' from his a new DVD the name of which escapes me - his base player has an AMAZING voice and lights this phenomenal tune right up.
But I digress... (then theres, Miles, Coltraine, John Mclaughlin, U2, Cracker, Janes addiction, The Pixies etc. etc. etc. ........ Of course ELP - some early YES - Richie Haven's 'Freedom' from woodstock and that BITCHIN! stuff the Australian Aboriginies do with the didjeridoo - you can ride that sound right into the next universe!)
