"and very hard to capture..."
That includes also a super protected Med Sea species called "sigorina selvaggia": In the experienced spearos circle, they say that this creature is captured only during an extreme ambush (aspetto) at a dangerous depht and that a visible shaft/gun increases the risk of loosing this unpredictable species...

The one with the Dentex is my hero: Gabriele Del Bene, Italy's deepest spearo, ex member of the National team, now in disgrace. He speared a dentex at-59meters breath hold with a Sporasub Aspic.

The one with the two ladies is Aldo Calcagno, from Sicily, 5 times national champion. Thanks for link Virgili, feels like home to me.

Why is Del Bene in disgrace? Has he been smoking roll-ups??rofl

Spaghetti

Does he use a pendulum like Alberto Mach ?
Is it the releasable weight/mobile lead? For very deep hunting he used a ballast of his own design, a 15 kg "torpedo", to reach 60 meters in 25 seconds, and very thick wetsuits for quicker surfacing. He claims he never had any BO. He's a 6'5" tall big man with a lung capacity of over 9 liters.
One friend of mine who was his buddy told me incredibile stories: of him working out groupers from holes at -40, then surface without releasing the belt; of him shooting a fish at 40 meters, miss it, reload and shoot again all in one breath. :martial
EDit: The above anecdotes are referred to Del Bene, not to March

Before spearing groupers has been definitvely vorbidden in France (about 20 years ago), they were involved in several spearfishers death by drowning. More often in trying to take out the fish of the cave... In my opinion the amazing anedoct about March should be exceptional and be typical of an exceptional athlete.
"signorina" and not "sigorina" (sorry)

In facts shooting groupers in holes is the first cause of spearfishing fatalities here in the Med. What March and Del Bene do (my anecdotes were referred to Del Bene) are exceptional and none should even try to hymitate because they are two very particular cases.

Amen to that spaghetti mio amico, those guys are 'supermen' us mortals watch and learn.....

Is March Ok, I was browsing in you-tube and found a video that was title tribute to Alberto March, he did not pass way or any thing correct ?
