OK First off a quick intro...
SCUBA'd on and off for the past 20 or so years but mostly snorkel/freedived for the last 5. Been lurking DB for a while and making do with snorkelling or borrowing kit. Ongoing sinus squeeze kept putting me off spending money on a gun I didn't think I would be using very often. last week a buddy gave up waiting and bought the gun for me cos he wanted to get started (Cayman HF2 90)

Since then Ive been in the water 4 times but with very limited viz. I overlook Lundy bay which always seem murky. Mostly been getting in there but had a few trips over Ilfracombe way to see a little further (think centimetres) than the end of my gun.

I now have a week off work so was trying to find somewhere with better viz to take my even more rookie than me mate. From what Ive read here it seems the South coast will always be a more rewarding dive and we may even get to see something more than close encounters with spider crabs.

Any suggestions for a days road trip for us?

Thanks in advance
Mav

Hi,I was up Coombe Martin a few days ago (driving a lorry ) and stopped in a layby overlooking Hele Bay and the vis looked great ,but generally the further West you head the better the vis but no guarantee ! For a good South coast spot try Talland Bay near Looe usually good vis if calm for a few days .with nice underwater topography to the left and right edges of the bay ,but like anywhere no guarantee of fish but can be good ( they hold a national comp there each year in September ) free parking if you get there early ( rare in cornwall !!! )

It was either head west or head South, I think we will wait for jubilee celebrations to end and see which way the wind takes us.
