I've decided to stick with 1 band on my Beuchat Marlin Elite 950 but would like the change it, it seems quite 'soft'. It's a 67cm long, 18.3mm megatonne band. Any bands that are good for power/ accuracy?

Also, my gun is open head but has 2 steel parts that can hold the spear into place or loosen it to free it. Someone suggested I loosen it all the way so it's completely free (holds into place with my monofilament line. At the moment it's incredibly tight, but should I just loosen it a little that there is hardly any friction at all, or loosen it that the spear is completely free?

Any tips on aspetto spearfishing? I'm quite new to this.

Thanks guys

Hi, sorry but I dont know much about the gun, especially the QRS locking system!
I cant imagine that anything restricting the spear is good though?
Ref the band, I think that is the standard band that comes fitted to the gun, if so then it should be the best option. I replace my bands every year & sometimes mid season too.
Do you use dyneema or the standard metal wish bone?
If you change to dyneema you can them make up your own bands to any length that suits...

Regarding the open head, I should obviously loosen it up, but completely or just enoguh that it's loose and not completely open. Coz I get the hunch that if it's completely open (spear still held by cord) I might lose accuracy?

I currently use the wishbones that came with the gun. I will switch to dyneema when I get the chance.

Also do you think my spear is too heavy? it's a 6.75mm stainless steel spear.

I am pretty sure the manufacturer would of supplied the best combination of spear & band power, you could try the sear button to see if we have any more info on the gun?
If you had a friend with another gun of a similar length you could make some direct comparisons...
6.75 is a very popular dimension at the moment!
