I dived yesterday in the bay with very bad viz and no fish although it was on the low tide so I wasnt expecting too much. I did enjoy watching the mackeral feeding for a while in the hope to see a few bass hanging around in the shadows but no luck.

met office reckons theres eastrlys blowing the whole of next week so it going to have be away dives again which is starting to dent my pocket on the petrol funds

It makes me laugh when people say that spearfishing is FREE fish but its probably cheaper to go to tescos and buy a fish and sit at home than to drive around looking for VIZ and the cost of all the gear ( must stop buying must stop buying must stop buying) but hey THATS NEVER GONNA HAPPEN

Hi All

Back from Rainy then sunny Cornwall with a newly boosted passion for our pleasure; spearfishing! Took the advice of James T (Cheers Mate!) and went to Talland Bay and what a place it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not much fish about but 35ft vis!!!!!!!! Rocks onto sand and saw and finally missed two flatfish, the only two i've ever seen! saw and missed the first on saturday and the second on sunday! Like Foxfish told me, once you've seen one they seem to instantly appear. Plus a thanks to Scott for all the bits to fix my gun! thanks all, post again soon

I had a dive with Davidw on saturday. Saw nothing but tiny pollack. Still, I managed to lose track of time and came in about an hour late (sorry Dave).

Dived again today (sunday) at the Shag stone, south of Bovisand. Viz was good anything from 4 to about 10m in good spots. Saw lots of small to medium pollack, and took three for dinner. Also helped myself to a nice big spider crab. On my way back in i got quite a surprise. An unexpected spearo right in front of me. Turns out it was Doc (Nice to meet you Doc, did you have a good dive?). A little further in I saw three bass of about 3 pounds or so each (Doc, they were behind you ) but they eluded me.

One of my neighbours runs a small flyfishing syndicate & was advertising for members. Very expensive I thought but if you factor in petrol, the fly fishing option starts to look like a considerable saving.

Had a dip last night from heybrook. awful rotting seaweed in the shallows and on the beach but lots of stringweed already. Is it me or is the water warmer this year?? 1/2 hour before anything sizeable spotted (agar4life!!) we chatted and I admired his pollocks for a bit. Went on out to the shag stone and managed to entice some Bass into range. got two decent specimins before the tide turned and it all went milky.
Looking forward to seeing one of them on the plate tonight.

Anyone willing to recommend a good brand of wetsuit glue? Anyone? Tribs Out

Tribs, Spearo Dave is the man to talk to he's the wetsuit king.

My Spetton wetsuit came with a tube of glue and some neoprene patches which I had to use the other day, set very quickly, amazing stuff, I didnt use the patchs tho and just stitched the outside to make sure there was nothing to snag.

glues called pegamento I think as the whole the tube is in spanish roflroflrofl

Tribs you should be able to get a tube of Black Witch from any diving shop.

Black Witch is good for most repairs and is also available in surf shops. For extra strong repairs Aquasure is very good and is quite widely available in dive shops and even my local camping shop now stocks it.

Seal Swimming - and the usual - where do I get spear-suit?

Hi all,
Went swimming down towards Challaborough... and met a seal.
Pretty cool to hang out together - swimming in circles, hanging out in the kelp... but I did wonder - Is he dangerous - and how to know what to look out for? Does anyone know signs or stories?
Also - WETSUIT - any suggestions for a new spear fishing suit. Last year there were loads of posts on good places to get a new custom suit. I'd like to treat myself - my old Cressi is full of holes and the patches are falling through.

As far as I know seals are harmless unless you get between a mother and her pup (well i've met a few and haven't been harmed so far)

My suit came from here DiveSkin - Quality Neoprene Products and was custom made and delivered in 2 weeks for a very good price.

Bought a handmade made to measure last season from Spearo Dave. The suit was a custom camo by Elios. It is an amazing suit and i have never been cold. worth the wait but wait I did, over 2 months

Hi Waterbird. I went for a cheapy spetton fishman which I rate as a very good spearo suit and at £109 delivered it didnt break the bank either.

The seals in the bay and around the breakwater are very friendly, never had any problem with them and bump into them most dives.


Whats the legal side to spearing salmon? I saw my first one yestersday, didnt shoot it as I cant remember whethere they were allowed or not. my gut says no but its always good to check

i think this was raised last year as a case of mistaken identity saw a 7lb brute coming out of Babbacombe, maybe check the 2007 thread. Pretty sure they are the untouceables with Sea Trout and Trout
