Went for a dive today roflroflrofl

didnt even get in. 5 foot swell and a brown slick from shore break to backline and beyond, should of checked the swell charts:head so drove home, was going on a boat dive tomorrow but might leave it till next weekend and hopefully the swell would of dropped.

bummer you dident get in,but i know what you mean about the swells.i was walking home this morning from torquay and it was nealy coming over the wall.abulute nightmare just got a new wet suit and i cant get out to enjoy it.:vangry.maybe soon tho.

Gary I think you gonna have to travel out the bay to get any viz. eastrlys are coming back.
try plymouth way you might get some luck down that way.

We were out walking today at Mount Edgecombe near Plymouth. The water was flat as a pancake and looked quite clear. I couldn't go in as I'm stuffed up with a cold. The spirit was willing, but the body was weak.

Well done you hardcore guys who are still diving. Let me know when the water temp gets up to 10 degrees again :)

Got in yesterday for the first time this year , 2 meters viz and freezing cold water saw me getting out after only 40 minutes.
Didnt see any fish not even the ever present Pollack, no flattys, lobsters or crabs.

on the walk back to the car I decided to give it a break for a month or so, just until the water warms up and the fish trickle back to our shores...................NAH might go scalloping !!!!!!

I know the feeling Scott. The bad vis made the dive I did a few days ago seem even colder and I got out after 25mins. This morning I was back at the water eyeing up conditions and thinking scallops! I just can't stay away.

I drove down to Venture Sports just after posting and bought a 7mm Cressi Comp suit and some new 5mm socks as Ive already wrecked the ones I got in November rofl that should keep me toasty.

The hood on the cressi comp covers a lot more of my face than the Spetton fishman Ive been using.

Nice one Scott, nothing like a warmer wetsuit to improve morale. I'm waiting for my new 5mm open cell to arrive from Greece. Hopefully that'll see me through these frigid Cornish waters :)

Welcome to my world of wearing obscene amounts of weight my friend. I knew you'd buy one. It's a great suit. I can stay in for hours in mine. Me and Scott are going down to the South Hams Sunday morning if you want to meet up. Team CRESSI Torquay, ha ha. May take the rib, depends on the wind. few of the guys at work have been catching big cod locally. Belated happy new year to all.

Cant make Sunday mate, im having to settle for a dive around the bay as Im on Wallpaper duty at home:rcard

Yeah Anthony reckons we going to look like tripplets walking around in all our cressi gear roflroflrofl

Triplets, thats funny. I can't think of three more different shaped blokes. I'm wearing 30lb of lead at the moment. I recon you might have to strip the church roof in order to sink your carcass, lol. Let me know what the visis like in the bay. Cheers

Are you guys wearing all that lead on a belt or do you use a vest as well?

roflroflrofl you not wrong. I think I might split it up, use the 7mm bottoms with the 5mm top as its my legs that feel it the most.

Foxfish my weight is on the belt and ankle. Im not a huge fan of weight vests partly due to the safety issue ( no quick release) and snagging on something while trying to pull a lobster out. this is of course my own personel issue as I know plenty spearos who use and swear by them.

At the moment I'm just using a rubber belt. I was a little worried at first that the distribution of weight would affect my diving. But it seems to work ok. However after a few hours it tends to ache my lower back. So I'm looking in to a chest harness. Omer do a nice one I think it's from the Marco Bardi Range. But my local dealer is having a few supply problems with them.
Do any of you other guys have any suggestions on makes of decent vests.

I went for a dive in Brixham this afternoon with Scott McBlue. No decent fish to shoot but we managed about 30 scallops instead.
Cauliflower puree and black pudding mmmmmmm

How was the viz Dave? Im hoping to have Tuesday off for a Dive around Brixham if you at a loose end, supposed to me a drop in wind

I bought my weight vest off Dave at Spearo - had it for two years now - probably wont go back - especially in the winter - I have to nearly double my lead when I switch from 5mm to 7mm - it had the same effect on my lower back - which was why I distributed via the vest.

Yeah, I like the look of those vests at Spearo. And they are reasonably priced. Can you tell me Foxfish if the large panel goes on the front of your chest or on your back ?

Scott. The vis was up to three metres on the bottom. But realy milky on the surface ( about one metre ). Also saw loads of velvet and blue swimmer crabs. I'm going to take my grabber next time and lift a few of them for crab cakes.

The seven mill suit was as good as ever. Managed a good few hours and could have done more if needed. However I got a parking ticket on my return to the car. I collared the traffic warden ( Sorry " NCP " ) and explained that on closing the car door my ticket must have blown off the dash and on to the seat. She wouldnt have it and issued me a ticket anyway. " Great " I said. Thanks very much. I think she could see me getting Pi**ed off. Carrying two knives and a speargun I decided to keep my mouth shut, head down and get in the car.

give me a txt scott about Tuesday. Im working split shifts this week so can meet up for a dive in the avo. cheers :martial
