A RARE fish sparked a bidding war at Brixham fish market yesterday when a South Devon skipper netted the 6ft 6in specimen off Portland Bill.
PS: Some ID and history:-
Argyrosomus regius, also known as a Shade-fish, Salmon Basse. Drum-fish, family: Sciaenidae
He he! It say's they grow to 100lbs and are very good eating . . . now where is that tuna gun . . .

i can't believed that fish only sold for £150 that is so cheap for that quality of fish witch prove my point don't shoot the big fish as they are less valuable then the litle one

Lobster's all gone and we are busy getting ready for the family holiday in France so no chance of finding the other half of him today.
We're going to the Vendee region which, according to a French angling site, is meant to be good for bass so hopefully will have something to report in a couple of week's time

I guees now you're Mr & Mrs she'll be starting to think about children so it will be really important to make sure you provide plenty of fish to keep up those omega 3 levels

Got back from Spain yesterday. spent 4 sun kissed days on the beach and in the water. Wish I had taken my spearo kit and camera as Benidorm is packed full of bream and mullet at the moment
Biggest gilt head I saw was around 3lb. Gin clear warm water although a bit cold as you hit the bottom with fish everywhere amazing site.
Heres a picture of our wedding cake topper we had made Gotta Love it
dived this morning early to avoid the boat traffic. When I got down to the beach there was already 2 kayakers and 2 boats working the reef so that didnt work roflroflroflrofl loads of mullet around with the odd sizeable pollack in the distance but only spotted 1 bass smaller than my hand cruising the stringweed so left empty handed.
Stopped off at venture sports to pick my new suit up ready for tonight's flounder tickling. Now just have to sort out a nice pair of leader fins and that should be my gear stocked up :friday Happy days!

What stiffness are you thinking with the fins? Been asking and most have gone medium but Wolfdiver said Hard?

Had a fantastic day today with my family down at Budleigh Salterton beach.
First time I’ve been there and was well impressed, lovely spot with a nice clean beach and plenty of little cafe’s along the front for ice cream, coffee and cake.
Spent a good few hours just messing around in the sea with my two kids, no spearing just chilling.

Got in today and had the wonderful sight of my first ever bass, 8 of them in a small shoal. carefully lined up my gun on the biggest and just as i pulled the trigger they spooked and the spear went less than a centimetre from the side of the big one. came up to some surprised looks from people 50m away on shore who heard the shout through my snorkel. started to cruise back in and saw a very nice mullet just out of range, so i stalked it though some weed and managed to find it again and take a shot, which to my enormous disappointment it managed to wriggle off of. was doubly annoyed from wounding a fish and losing the biggest fish id ever aimed at. then saw a smaller mullet ,while looking for the big one to finish it off, which i final managed to get a clean shot on.
all in all very frustrating but good day. the mullet i took has a small yellowy gold spot on each cheek, is this a golden grey mullet? its in the oven now

I was thinking about going ex hard as im not the smallest person. Would be nice to actually hold the fins and feel the difference
Bad luck on the bass Greg at least you nailed the mullet
Cheers scott, i think it was a pretty small bass anyway so no harm done. worst thing about today was losing the big mullet off the spear.

Hey Podge! We live in Budleigh! If I wasn't sat gaining weight on my ever increasing fat posterior here in Florida I would have made you a cream tea! Next time eh!
