South West Endland -Devon Spearfishing

Hi,

I'm interested in taking up Spearfishing in teh South West of England. Is there anywhere I can find a list of fish I am likely to encounter and more specifically what I can legally hunt?

I want to eat what I catch so tasty fish only!

Is there a website with this sort of info?

That's a good way to start You can legally shoot any fish except game fish (salmon, trout etc) I think the best fish to target are Bass, Mullet, Pollack and a decent flatty. There is some good information on Spearguns by Spearo uk ltd finest supplier of speargun, monofins, speargun and freediving equipment look in the tips section. Have you seen the dedicated forum for Devon in the new trips section? (just below the hunting section) loads of good stuff it there. Check it out

I live in far East Devon in Seaton. Are you from Devon too?

I live in Taunton and tend to head for East Devon or Torbay. Sidmouth is a favourite as it is the shortest drive for me and a fairly good spot for mullet in the summer.

Some great kelp beds for Bass on the NDevon Coast, saw plenty of fish around 4-10lb this summer, absolutely blown away just how close to the shore they were, most within 5 meters of the shoreline in 2 meters of water... wish I'd taken my GoPro out, lovely clear day 15 meters vis, Bass and Lobsters.

What's the winter fish stock like? Is there much around? I'm often down Totnes way.
