I have moved up to university in Cardiff from cornwall (falmouth area), i started spearing last summer and had to come back to uni after easter just as everything started coming back in again ! :head

1)Just wondering if anyone has been in recently around south/west wales ?
2)If they have whats the vis like ?
3)Also just what sort of things will i see ?

Cheers

Hey there!

I am studying in Cardiff aswell!

To answer your questions - I was in this weekend over in Pembrokeshire but the viz was down to 2-3 metres due to the large swells and poor weather we had last week. 7 hours in the water after 2 hours sleep due to sleeping in the car and starting at 6.50 am probably had an effect as KI was shattered by the end of the day. We meant to stay for the whole weekend but decided to return home as it was down to 8 degrees with very few fish about. Only managed a nice lobster and an edible crab. You will see everything you see on the south coast i.e Bass, mullet, pollock, lobsters, crabs with a few surprises mixed in (red mullet and bream)!

Give us a shout if you need any more info

Cheers

Dave

I assume you are busy getting ready for exams as well then ? Hoping there will be more about by the time mine are over on the 21st. :)

How affected is the vis by rain/wind etc ? In cornwall have managed to find the occasional spot which is less affected by the weather (nice enclosed bays) :) , do you get the same here or if the vis is bad in one place its likely most places will be the same ?

Cheers

Andy

Nope, I am on an intercalated year so no exams. Working full time in a hospital aswell producing a 20,000 word doucument though isn't really that simulating especially as most of it is reflection i.e. I may aswell make a collage of the emotions I feel.

Good thing about both Cornwall and Pembs is the fact that they have coasts that face all directions so it is always possible to get out of the worst of the weather. As with Cornwall, most of the time it is possible to find vis in poor weather but alot of driving is sometimes required. However, if it has been horrendous weather/swells for days on end, there is very little chance you will find vis anywhere.

Ah that work sounds a bit like my personal communication and development skills in english module !

Sounds the same as cornwall studying google maps and driving/exploring to find the best spots for the conditions. You wouldn't know any good places for scallops or muscles ? its all that was around over the winter and easter and acquired a liking for them.
