Hey all. I am new here and getting into free diving in southeast alaska and am looking for a decent 7mm wetsuit and speargun. Mainly going to be diving for crab and scallops, but want to try my hand at some lingcod and possibly the occasional Hali/salmon. Curious if any of you guys have any good recommendations for a good wetsuit (I am still growing so not too expensive) some beginner fins and a good mask? Some I am hearing a 75cm gun max and no wood, but also hearing wood will hold up better...

I tend to choose wetsuits based on material first. jako and yamamoto 39 are good value for money neoprene options.
75cm guns are way too short, basically only for hole/chamber fishing or unless the visibility is as muddy as in a lake.
otherwise 90cm is the jack of all trades. single explosive rubber 17,5-19mm, shaft 6,5mm is the common recipe
simple aluminum barrel works. go based on price but try to avoid a plastic trigger
i've found the best value for money with mvd or bucanero guns but meandros are also amazing. depends on what the local dealership has too
