Hi divers,

I'm traveling to Southern CA this weekend and would like to explore the underwater, spearfishing, freediving, or even snorkeling. I'm bringing my gear with me. I have a short gun 65cm (should I bring it or is it worthless there).

If any of you local guys is available and wouldn't mind showing me some nice diving spots, let me know. I will be staying in Costa Mesa and will have transportation and time to drive places.

There is the event below this weekend, but I am not sure if you need a boat to attend. Again, if any of you locals is going and wouldn't mind it if I come with you, let me know.

Hi Calicohunter,

Thank you for the reply. I will be staying in Costa Mesa, and I'm not sure where i can go out at, or the regulations out there, which is why I was hoping to go with a local if they are up for it, so they can guide me somehow.

My e-mail address is Detari_SR@yahoo.com, let me know if you want to dive or have any suggestions about the best areas for me.

Thanks again,

Cheers

the best spots are point loma kelp patties. You need a kayak or a boat for that though. If You jsut wanna go out without a boat go out a at La Jolla. SOme of the beach would be Windeessne, Marine Street, And Horse shoes. Those are soem of the besst spots around you dont need a boat for. One thing you have to make sure that all the fish you catch are legal. You can get all the info about legal fish on the Califonia Fish and game website. One other thing make sure you dont shoot the big black fish which are [black seabass] Or the Orange fish [Geribaldie] those are protected by Califorina and you will get in major trouble if you shoot those.

I think you meant Point Loma kelp BEDS.

Kelp paddies are clumps of kelp that have broken free from the bottom and are floating on the surface in the open ocean. They attract bait, which often attract fish, but a boat is obviously required.
