Anyone out there know what the current status is on the SoCal MLPA's? Last I heard is that there was still a lot of money to come up with in order to get them passed along our coastline (Orange County). Any truth or distruth to that? Additionally, are there any resources for published updates as to its progress?

all lookers, no takers eh?
oh well...off to the island then

There's some movement on this recently. The Fish & Game Commission still has work to do and there are meetings coming up soon.

On the funding front, the MLPA program may get a sizable chunk of nearly a billion dollars that's winding its way through the legislature. The funds are to be used for conservation and research, and MLPA implementation, monitoring, enforcement, and improvement fit the bill.

You can thank BP for this one. Their screw-up has generated more interest in protecting our fisheries and ocean ecosystems. Sadly, the shenanigans of some divers and fishermen have contributed to the view that we are ignorant rapers and pillagers of a resource that belongs to the people of the state. At this late stage in the process, it's hard to change public perceptions, no matter how inaccurate.

Thanks Seacidal! Just curious since there seems to have been a lull in the uproar around the Orange County area lately. I appreciate your feedback.

a hui hou,
