Anybody ever run into any gilthead bream around the south coast of Ireland or England? Just got the new Irish specimen fish listings and there's an article that says a lot of them are being caught on rod and line around there. Next to the tautog, it's got to be the tastiest fish that swims!

I think their teeth are a clue as to why they taste so good! With a set of nashers like that, they must eat different food compared to the more usual Bream species. Couches Bream are quite common over here, but they taste just like Black Bream. Personally I find all Bream can differ in taste from one individual to the next. Again I think it is because they have such a varied diet.

Yeah Mart .. I heard you had one or two (hundred was it ?!) last season :)

There are some big big buggers up the Salcombe estuary, I think the UK shore caught record is from there. Unfortunately it's a bass nursery but I'm not sure if that applies to the gilthead too!!!
