Chaps i propose we have a friendly fish of the month competition throughout 2008.The rules will be simple and i will try to make the prize a t-shirt of some design.

This will only work if you want it to and is only a bit of fun.

Proposed Rules..

1) Entrant must have posted more than 5 times to enter.
2) All fish entries to be submited with a picture to prove capture but weights are not important but can be reported.
3) All entries for the month must be received by the 2nd of the following month.
4) Crabs and Lobsters will be included
5) Winner will be choosen by way of all members voting on entries, most votes wins.

So what do you think everybody how about some fun...

Sounds like a good idea - "fish of the month" but does that mean all the remaining months = 10 - going to cost you in shirts mate?
We could do something like that ourselves Dave but you would need to find space for all those shirts :)

Sounds great John, I’m up for a laugh and maybe a best capture of the year with a bit of a do somewhere say towards Christmas.:friday
One thing mate, if those Guernsey fish catching machines are up for the crack am I aloud to cheat?:):)

The South West was originally just Dorset,Devon,Cornwall and Ireland as this was the area for my Regional Advisor status.

If everybody wants to make it a DeeperBlue fish of the month competition then i have no problem with that as long as the same rules can be applied. The whole idea was to get more members to post and take part and to have some fun and be fair as a 4lb bass for one memeber is a triumph to another more experienced memeber maybe a tiddler.Members should try to enter the fish they catch day to day as it should be judged on merit.

If the Guernsey boys are to join in then we will probabley have to have a different set of t-shirts for the Foxen brothers for services to the sport:friday

I would like this to start in April and finish in December and at the end of the year all monthly winners will be voted on by other members for fish of the year.

Anymore thoughts chaps?

I think it sounds like a super idea - I'd like it if Guernsey could be included but where do you draw the line...? You could end up posting T-shirts to Chile, Japan, Australia, SoCal... :) Maybe limit it to the extend of the forums in this section?

Perhaps the montly winner should wear their (BRIGHT YELLOW) T-shirt for the following month whilst spearfishing aka tour d france leader, etc. yellow jersey :)

If there is enough server space, etc could we have a spearo 'photo of the month'?

The Blue Dolphins club here in Guernsey started nearly 50 years ago and in it's earlier days was mainly a spearfishing club. I believe it still exists but only as a shadow of its former self and now only for scuba.

In its heyday the club ran Fish Of the Months, an annual series of competionions and hosted some internationals as well as once or twice sending teams away. FOM's were based on % of local spearfishing records. Best % of record won a small trophy. I have a box of then somewhere :). Results were published in the local paper along with competition results, current leader board etc. The annual dinner/prizegiving was spectacular with over 200 people present. Some really nice trophies and prizes plus the usual boring speaches and occasional food fight :friday.

I like your idea John and especially the voting bit as that makes it not too serious. Not sure whether you should include us, so leave that up to others to decide but the idea gets my approval whatever.

Dave

Great idea :) we just need a design for a t-shirt - I have been Busting a Lung trying to think if we have anyone on DB that could do that!!! hint hint Ade!!!

Well there is discussion going on at the moment & it looks promising - if this all works out Guernsey will have a separate FOM & possibly other regions as well.

This sounds like a good idea to me. As you say, bit of fun and nothing too serious.

Sounds like a great idea, looking forward to the pics and a bit of lighthearted competition... Roll on April!

Chaps the Fish of the Month Competition is a go.There will be two seperate Competitions one for mainland UK and one for the Channel Islands. The competition will start on 1st April 2008 and i will post rules soon.

Remember this is a friendly competition but i'm sure there will be some local rivalry.
