My "Taimen" speargun uses an aluminium slider as have many old spearguns from the past, remember aluminium is available in many different alloys and can be heat treated. These versions on the Russian web-site have hydraulic brakes, so can be used with stop diameters on the shaft that are a close fit in the rear bore of the slider. The other thing that interested me was the large range of speartips. Some are for specialist applications such as the "crown" tip which is designed to not stick into underwater logs if you miss, but will do in a thick scale fish such as a Carp.

Yes, I have one of those titanium sliders that I purchased after I received my Pelengas 70 cm gun which came equipped with a stainless steel slider, however stainless steel is heavier than titanium which is heavier than aluminium and for some applications aluminium will do the job. Don't forget that for years plastic sliders worked OK, however modern versions have reduced the dimensions to the point where their durability has fallen off.

While looking at the Beuchat material I noticed this poster; something to read, but not necessarily believe! (Rene Cavalero beat him to it with his visually identical "Champion" Arbalete, the Beuchat gun shown is in fact the "copy" and not vice versa)...
