Spear fishing northeast England

Hi. I'm a keen scuba diver but am now getting into freediving and spearfish ing and would like some advise of any clubs and locations in the Durham/Newcastle area of the north east

Is the water clear enough to dive up around there? I used to visit Yorkshire regularly but never quite got the chance to try spearing up there - I always planned to. Not sure about Northern clubs. You might need to start one - Durham & Newcastle are university towns, so you might be able to find some keen types.
