Spear Gun Sizes - Rob Allen 120cm = Blue Water?

I've been using a RA 90cm as my reef gun and would like to pick up a blue water gun.

Would a RA 120 cm qualify as a solid blue water gun or should I be looking at different sizes or different brands altogether?

Rob Allens are a good blue water gun ( depending on the fish you are Targeting ) but I would go up to a 1.4.

1.2 is just a little to short

Would be for yellowtail up to 40 lbs, WSB up to 50 lbs and small local paddy dorados. Those kind of sizes. Need good range although visiblity around here never exceeds 30' I think. Never went far offshore before though so I'm not too sure. San Diego area.

Hiya

The 120cm size is ideal for your conditions. The problems you will encounter is that the longer the gun, the more difficult it is to track a fish with.

With you viz. seldom exceeding 30', which is pretty similar to my conditions, the 120 should be perfect. (I use 115cm guns). Since you're targetting large fish, get a 7.5mm spear and 2x16mm bands (for EASIER loading!!)

a 120 will get almost any fish.
