I am presently building a short roller gun. I have taken stage photos of my work & will ultimately post a thread relating to its construction. What I need at the moment is a 6.5 or 7mm stainless steel spear that will except a line slider. The gun is a Euro style fitted with a Imersion trigger-handle unit.
Any ideas where I can buy a suitable 900 or 1000 spear?

You can get Devoto shafts from Totemsub (http://www.totemsub.it/indexarbaen.htm) and from subprof (http://www.subprof.com/tienda/index.php?cPath=56_122).

I like the Devoto shafts as they are nice and hard.

The Abellan 7mm ones are very good but I think they come in 140cm length.

Not sure how you are attaching the line ?

Like the Mambo's or like a regular gun ?

Depending on the power you intend to put on you will need to decide between 7mm and 6.5mm... could be alot going for 7mm.

7mm / 100cm will allow you to add more power - will have more mass too ... This is the combination that Shane in Gibraltar uses on his 90cm Mamba and seems to work (www.medfish.com).

Guess you will be cutting one down ?

I have a Devoto 6mm/120cm and a Devoto 6.5mm/140cm and an Abellan/Picasso 7mm/140cm if you want to check them out in the flesh before buying your own (would offer to sell but they are earmarked for project deux :) )

Cheers
Ed

Thanks Ed & Huan.
Here are a few pics. The macro shows how I constructed the barrel & the type of spear end I am looking for.

Looks good - what wood is it ? Also ... what are those floor boards ?! Just curious - I am nowhere near floorboards but good to dream :)

Have you taken a standard shaft and made a lump at the end for a slider ?

I agree with Huan - also have heard that the steel sliders suffer from metal fatigue and split suddenly.

I made the barrel from hard wood mouldings available from the local DIY store. I am not exactly sure of the type of wood? Neither is the store! But is a Utility look alike. The barrel end is Beech. The floor boards are Maple. The spear shaft was manufactured with a stop but is a 6mm. I haven't got a problem with making a slider as I have never had problems with any I have made in the past.

a friend of mine that uses a sliding ring on his beuchat got some tabs welded onto the end of the spear, i think what they did was put a stainless steel pin through the hole at the end, then just welded it in place on each side, then filed it down to shape. i sanded it to make it look cleaner, got it to look pretty good, cost was about $4 US, then a piece of 180 grit sandpaper..
