For such a small country we have a long coastline. We have the most southern tip of Africa that splits the Indian and Atlantic oceans and the Benguela and Agulhas currents. I am on the West coast that gets the cold waters rising up from the south that makes our Summer water temps 9-12 Celcius. This is whilst the outside Temp might be 40 Celsius 
. We have heavy swell and dirty water. However it is free of sharks and stingers. When you move around Cape Point the water suddenly gets warmer and the diving easier with better viz, however the Great whites also enjoy the warmer water. Then as you move up our Southern - Eastern coast the water becomes warmer and the fish more colurful. We have Cape Agulhas at teh Southern Tip of Africa where one can have the best days diving shooting stunning fish in warm water. I will rate this area (Struisbaai, Arniston and Skipskop) as my favourite diving area. The Greatwhites are a real threat here so you have you head on a swivel as much as you can. However later in teh day it is as if you make peace with them being there.
I am by no means a good diver or a pro, however I grew up on the sea and love the experience of being underwater freediving. We have some great divers out here that are real tough men, I am not one of them.

I take it you also have an itchy trigger finger? Don't worry... the Struisbaai season is not too far away!
I visited your Island a couple of weeks ago but alas, we couldn't find yesterdays fish so had to settle for some Hotties.
