Hello All

New to speardiving and was wanting to order the equipment below for use in the UK. Was wondering if someone can advise if I've missed anything or if I would be better off with different kit.

Omer Fins Stingray Soft - I'm a UK size 10 and was thinking about buying the 10½ - 11½ UK. Will these fit if I'm using 5mm socks?

Omer Buoy/Float - Atoll

Imersion Line - Floating - Buoy/Float

Imersion Monofiliment Kit - (15m/6 sleeves)

Imersion Stringer - Stainless Steel Rope

Imersion Gloves - Elaskin - 5.0mm

Beaver Bag - Catch

Cressi Wetsuit - Technica 7.0mm Camo

Cressi Speargun - Geronimo

Cressi Mask - F1 Frameless

APNEA Booties/Socks - 5mm

Cressi Snorkel - Corsica

Cressi Bungee - Shock Absorber - Pigtail

Omer Knife - MiniBlade

Any advise would be much appreciated

very hard to say but yes allow some room for the socks. best if you can try first. possibly someone on here is near to you?

Omer Buoy/Float - Atoll
yes that will do. you may change in the future - boards are popular too.

Imersion Line - Floating - Buoy/Float

Imersion Monofiliment Kit - (15m/6 sleeves)

Imersion Stringer - Stainless Steel Rope
i hope you mean stainless stringer with mono line. dont use wire on the stringer
Imersion Gloves - Elaskin - 5.0mm

Beaver Bag - Catch

Cressi Wetsuit - Technica 7.0mm Camo

Cressi Speargun - Geronimo
what length gun are you going for? most go for 75-95cm for their first gun in uk waters.
Cressi Mask - F1 Frameless

APNEA Booties/Socks - 5mm

Cressi Snorkel - Corsica

Cressi Bungee - Shock Absorber - Pigtail

Omer Knife - MiniBlade
good knife - will you wear it on your arm or leg?

Hi Jonny

Thanks for getting back to me.

I live up in Aberdeen and I'm not sure if there is much of a spearfishing community. As far as I'm aware the only dive shop we have doesn't sell that specific model. I think I'm just going to order the fins and socks and if they don't fit I'll just send them back.

The stringer comes as a unit with the line, I would assume it's mono, but can't be sure.

I was planning on going with a 75 as I believe that's the most commonly used in the UK. Do you know if it's worthwhile going with the geronimo over the comanche ?

I was figuring that I would get one knife to start with and wear it on my leg with the aim of getting a second for my arm later.

My aim is to get the best available kit for the money I have to avoid having to upgrade at a later date.

Thanks again

the 75 makes sense, but i have no idea between the 2 models. i imagine that you will defo want a longer gun later though...
good luck... :)

5mm suit might be better & is what 95% of us use, 7mm will be too warm mid summer & requires extra weight.

I'd recommend a 7mm for Scotland if you want a longer dive season tbh.
A 5 is fine but for our fishing you'll get chilled pretty quickly as your bottom times increase.
A 90 gun may be a better bet too I'd say but you'll find one gun is never enough so you'll be adding to whatever you buy now anyway :)

There are a few spearos around - lookup Spearfish Scotland on FB.

Ah sorry did realise you were in Scotland ... I would look up 9mm suits & heated under vest if I were you!

I'd go for the Omer Milleniums as you can change the blades at a later date if you want to upgrade to Carbon or Fibreglass. I've got Omer fins in both Soft and Medium hardness - I'd definitely go with the Medium unless you weigh less than 70kg.

Omer Buoy/Float - Atoll
Decent float, I've used one for the past 5 years

Imersion Line - Floating - Buoy/Float

Imersion Monofiliment Kit - (15m/6 sleeves)

Imersion Stringer - Stainless Steel Rope
I'd go for a monofiliment stringer personally, as you can cut it if you need to but if you're leaving it on your float, it doesn't matter

Imersion Gloves - Elaskin - 5.0mm
WAY too thick! I'd go for not more than 3mm gloves as past 3mm you lose dexterity and feeling - I did once buy some 5mm gloves but had to return them.

Beaver Bag - Catch

Cressi Wetsuit - Technica 7.0mm Camo
Good choice, the thicker the better in Scotland!

Cressi Speargun - Geronimo
I'd go for a Rob Allen 80 Aluminium if I were you - spec'd with a single 16mm band and a 6.75mm spear.

Cressi Mask - F1 Frameless
Frameless masks are great - looks nice

APNEA Booties/Socks - 5mm
5mm is a good call!

Cressi Snorkel - Corsica
Good choice

Cressi Bungee - Shock Absorber - Pigtail

Omer Knife - MiniBlade
Great knife, am not sure you could get better

------

Seems like you've made some good choices - I'd get thinner gloves, the Millenium fins and a Rob Allen gun (personal choice) but apart from that, you seem good to go!

Thanks for the advise guys.

I placed my order on Friday and I've ordered a 7mm and will probably order a 5mm custom for summer. I'm quite tall and thin so I thought that if I'm too hot I can always order the 5mm sooner than I plan. I also ended up going for a Omer cayman hf 75mm as it seemed a bit of a better gun that the Cressi. I will no doubt end up getting a more expensive gun in the future.
