Hi there,
Although I'm not based in Germany, I made a lot of friends and generally quite enjoyed the banter and trip reports from Germany's travelling spearo scene.
For some reason the forum dissapeared from the earth, I dug up a chached line mentioning that some fundamental environmentist group deemed it necessary to threaten the admin and getting the site closed. I get it – spearfishing is illegal in Germany, but not once a member has been posting a report or even considered spearfishing in Germany's lakes, rivers or the baltic seas.
For me personally the forum was a great way to stay in contact with some like minded people from my old home. Especially the build threads were worth mentioning and ('scuse the stereotype) German engineering at its finest. Freedom of expression is a valuable thing and only once we loose our mates, their reports, pics, videos and adresses we begin to understand that democracy seems only to work as long as it's not in the way of some overly zealous lobbyist group.
I miss you guys – if anyone of you reads this, please reply to this thread and let's start a new FB group or whatever. And if you ever planning to come down to my neck of the woods – my house is your house. : )
Bis denn und Hut ab!

It does annoy me when environmentalists target spearfishing, potentially the most environmentally form of fishing there is, they could be targeting factory ships, trying to educate those that see fit to leave dead smoothhounds on the beach and bags of mackerel in the bin, trying to educate the consumer that the oceans are not a limitless resource but no, they target the average spearfisher who loves the ocean, only takes what will be eaten, kills nothing undersize and lets be honest is putting themselves at personal risk in pursuit of fish, what more do these people want? I myself only eat fish that I have caught, literally, which means that I don't eat that much fish and I don't eat meat at all, I believe that if I am not prepared to kill what I eat, I shouldn't be eating it. My personal choice, I try to be environmentally friendly, come on all you environmental extremists out there, give us a break, I also work with dogs.................... might get me a few more browny points:D................. that's true by the way;)

Hello,
thats really bad!
Damn activists!

Grüße aus Wien

I don't know if you can reopen the forum, I guess there's a lot of legal battle involved. After all it has survived quite a bit and has been a controversial topic all along.
I – for my part – would kick up some stink and rather ask to review the outdated law in order to get spearfishing made legal as long as it's happening in the sea. As pinniped mentioned it is the most sustainable form of fishing, but try to tell this some old fart in their Berlin office. What's really grinding my gears is the combination of ignorance and power that allows people to close down a community board "because we don't like it". I have to be careful to not accuse anyone though – I said I just read a cached line somewhere that this may have been the issue for the shut down. I was hoping someone closer to the admin could shed some light on it.
Anyway – maybe hosting the forum in another country would be an idea? Good to have you on board, Anton!

After a bit of a deeper dive into some old web-caches I'd want to redact my previous statement of accusing environmental groups having the power and legal means to shut down the forum. I think I've fallen for a previous and repeatedly placed April's fool joke that went over my head due to reading it 5 month later. However, although I'm excluding this the leading cause for the forum disappearance it's nonetheless gone.
It would have been easy to blame someone else, but now I'm still not a single bit wiser in what happened and where the community went. I've got a hunch that the forum died the slow death of non-commitment mixed with an off-season blues and the instant gratification of a facebook group (which also can't be found). Sad to see you go, but Anton has lit up a candle and placed it in the window above (quite literally) for all the poor souls without a home…
Remember that social media groups may be all the rage right now, but I dare you asking a question that doesn't go like: "how's the vis, bro?"

Hugs –
