HI, my boyfriend and I are planning a trip for about a month in November/ Jan. We were planning on going to Belize, but heard that spearguns can be confiscated in customs etc. Anyone have any personal experience spearfishing in Belize? We are also considering Mexico (not sure where yet, have tried Pacific coast South of Puerto Vallarta, but visability isn't great and are thinking about somewhere in the Caribbean.) Anyone have any suggestions? Honduras is also an option we're considering, anyone with experience there? We prefer smaller, nontouristy towns, but any suggestions or personal experience would help. Thanks in advance.

Hi there.Lived on catamaran in San Pedro(Belize) from jan to july.No problem with spearguns even a friend of mine bought me a gun from USA and brought it to me.Lots of grouper-big ones i have 30-50 pounds a few.Outside the reef with chuming. There are also bull sharks:).Just outside San Pedro's reef.On the reef-snappers,hog-fish smal groupers, jacks.casional king fish, wahoos, small tuna outside the reef.Good spot Turneffe atol north part.Lots of lobsters but careful about the season.fom 15.02-15.06 banned. At the moment in St Martin.Caribbean is almost forbidden teritory unless you have own boat and smuggle a gun but dont do this in Bonaire will get in jail. Most of the islands now are marine parks.Hope its helpfull the info.Heard good stories about San Blas Islands off Panama.
Good luck!

I have still had no reply from anyone who may have been to spiritwind. I think I will contact them and ask for references from people who have stayed with them. I will post my findings

I have found a website and talked to the owner at spiritwind resort in southern Belize and it sounds great. Spiritwind Belize - Spearfishing Has anyone ever been there?

howdy, have you ever spearfished the st pete open? I went years ago and had a lot of fun. I'd like to do it this year so if you are free, let me know if you want to hook up and do it.

I am scuba certified but I only freedive spearfish.

I live in Pompano Beach, just North of Fort Lauderdale. I have been spearfishing since I was 8 and I am now... (geez) 44... I used to dive deep but since the kids, I like to go no more than 50-60 ft.

Let me know if you are interested!

Actually won the lobster division the only year I entered back in 90-91? Would love to go again but don't really have the boat that you need to go out deep anymore. I have a 21ft boat that I take 10-15 miles but that won't cut it for the St Pete Open.
