hi all
I'm going to finland at the beginning of september
does anyone knows if it's worth spearfishing?
from tampere I'll drive to the eno area - north karelia
anyhow I'm also interested to know the general situation for spearfishing in the whole country, lakes and sea
in fact this is a country I'll come back often
as for the sea, my idea was the aland island, the south or pori area
tks

Hello.

I live in Joensuu, just close by Eno. There are some clear lakes around, but I'm not aware of that many. I usually go to Kuorinka or Viinijärvi which are the lakes I have permission this year.

Kuorinka is quite a nice lake, since it has very good visibility (especially if the wind is not that bad). It has almost totally sand bottom. Couple hundred meters from the restarea (see map: ) water is shallow, but then it suddenly drops. This is the place to look for the perches.

Other place where I've been couple of times is Viinijärvi. There is a bridge nearby which you can easily go to water (see map). The problem with Viinijärvi is, however, that the visibility changes a lot and quickly.

Spearfishing is not that common, especially here in eastern Finland. Thus, it might be good idea to have the permissions. In order to spearfish you shall need the fishing management fee paid and then a permission from the owner of the water area. (more info here).

For Kuorinka and Viinijärvi the permission is rather easy to get (although I'm not sure whether the person who sells the permission speaks anything but finnish). I can send his phone number with email if you need it.

in some cases it's fairly safe to go without permission as well, especially if you're able to enter the water from pier of a summer cottage etc. where there are no spectators.

I've never been fishing in Eno area, but I suppose there are some clear lakes and ponds as well.

I would like to act as your quide, but I will be leaving to Taiwan soon for three months. However, if you're coming here often, please do not hesitate to contact me.

thank you very much

I have friends in eno who will help me with permissions etc

I still don't know if I'll carry with me spearfishing equipment, as it's heavy and also without diving weights it'll be the most part of my suitcase

I will decide when I will prepare the luggage

I mainly go for the forests and mushrooms

anyhow, I'd like to know more about spearfishing, also about the seaside, as I'm intended to come back often to finland, for leisure and for work

I wrote to team kampela (directly and then also tried to register to their forum) but had no answer at all from anyone
it'll be very nice to go together fishing or spearfishing or simply drink a coffee or a beer in joensuu or nearby

I'll arrive in tampere on 31st of august, then will slowly drive stopping here and there and be in eno the 1st or 2nd of september until the 11th

then fly back, stopping a week in northern sardinia, where I'll go only for spearfishing and where friends will be already there with my car and equipment

if you're still there in karelia and have time, let me know

tks anyway

Sorry for my late reply.

I tried to look for you message on Team Kampela message forum, but I could not find it. However, it still should be the best option to contact other finnish spearfishers.

I'm not able to tell you that much about the sea and fishing there, since I have been in the sea only two times (in a competition couple of weeks ago). At least for me it was a nice experience, but in general it seems that there is more fish in the lakes.

I will leave on 13th of September to Taiwan. Unfortunately I do believe that most of my time left here is spent at work, packing and other trip related things.
