Hi
does anybody knows anything about spearfishing in La Reunion?

hi magiatika

what kind of fishes, if it's easy to rent a boat, where to stay, etc, etc...

can you help with anything??

cheers from the european west coast

all kinds of tropical fish, demersal and pelagics, right now summer time is in full swing, soon the cyclones will start the rainy season (it's been very dry so far). dogtooth tuna, trevallies and sailfish are in at the moment. (and the sharks too!)
when do you plan to go and for how long? what kind of boat do you need?
what type of fishing do you do?
here there is not as much fish as elsewhere in the area (ie mayotte, madagascar and the other mascareignas islands), lots of really good local spearos, and you usually have to go deep to bring home something interesting.
that said, visibility is generally good, 25-30 m, sharks can be a problem, but there are still some excellent fish to catch.
valeu...

oh yeah and in case you haven't heard, there is an epidemic of chikungkunya, a mosquito transmitted disease, at the moment here...

Hi again

thanks for all the info. are you brazilian or so? "valeu" it'a a very brasilian word.

answering your questions: what i realy love to do is bluewater spearfishing and that what i'm looking for in La Reunion, with or without shark, but, sincerely, i prefer without...

about the epidemic of chikungkunya, that's a realy big problem!

i plan travel with my son David, 15 years old and a very god diver, my wife Tania (she's french) and little Artur with 11 months.

only me and David for the spearfishing plans

all this during a week or something, in the best time for the bluewater game, that i dont know were is...

i dive a lt in Azores where i have a house, but there we dont have Dogtooth... have you cath any of the big ones anytime?

cheers

David

hey david,

i'm not brazilian, but i've travelled there a few times...:) azores not yet, but definitely one of these days, si deus quizer.
what's good here about spearfishing is that you very often find pelagics really close to the coast, because the island is so young and it drops so steeply so quickly. some places you have drop-offs of more than 80-100 m less than 50m from shore, gnarly volcanic lava too.
best time for fishing is right about now, summertime before the rainy season gets in action. with the mozzies at the moment, and if you want to visit with your children, you'd be better off to wait a bit though.
we get excellent fishing all year around, just in winter (reverse the seasons for your side) we sometimes get really big swell. usually 3/4 days swell and a small window where one can fish.
the law here for spearfishing is the same as in france, you have to be older than 16 to fish, so you're aware of that.
plenty of good places to go where there are no navy controls though, and very different types of fish from one side of the island to the other.
when you have made up your mind about when you want to visit, let me know, i'll show you around...i need to practice my portuguese.
até logo.

Hi Magiatika

you're very kind, thanks for all
thanks for the very usefull information about the island.

we have a few (french) friends in La Reunion and also in Mayotte. one of them have a sailboat... i have'nt yet contact him for a possible dive trip in the island or even in other islands, but soon i'll know more about it. i dream with the channel Bassas, off course, but for the moment is nothing more than a dream.

Azores it's a lost paradise, manly the western islands, the very small Corvo and the beautiful Flores. i have house and boat in Flores and when you plan visit the place, please tell me, we sure can arrange something

we'll keep in touch
cheers

d.
