Spearfishing in Northern Cyrpus

Hi guys

Im new to the deeperblue forum. I noticed a number of threads talking about obtaining a permit to spearfish in Northern Cyprus but there was no
decisive answer to the question as such.

I currently live in southern cyprus but hold both a british and cypriot ID and was wondering if there was any progress on the matter, i.e. if its possible for a non-turkish resident to obtain a permit?? furthermore, if no one knows if this is possible... where could i find out???

hi im an australian and a turkish cypriot currently living in north cyprus. Yes you need to have a spearfishing license in TRNC. its very easy to get but you do need to grab a medical form from them which your doctor needs to sign before you can get it. the license itself costs 10TL per year which is nothing at all. if you are caught without it they will confiscate your gear and you could face a severe punishment.

ohh and to answer your question, you can get a license if you arent a turkish cypriot citizen

Thanks for your reply!! if only it had been a few weeks earlier as im going back to the UK at the end of this week.

It will probably be next year before i manage to go fishing again but with regards to gettign the forms needed... where exactly can I get them from? Also considering I also have an English passport can Greek Cypriots also obtain the permit?

the point of the license is to make sure that you are fit to dive with a speargun without having any medical problems. i will double check for you about the greek cypriot thing but i belive it should be fine. you can obtain your license from either Magosa (Famagusta) or Lefkosa (Nicosia) behind the Ministry of education building. we dont have addresses here so you can ask people where the ministry of education is and they will point you in the direction. takes around 10mins to get it from nicosia but about 1 day from famagusta. you need to be checked by a doctor of course to determine if you are medically fit or not. i can scan the form and send it to you if you are interested. anyway thats all i can tell you for now but ill check to make sure greek cypriots can get the license.

also the ministry of education in nicosia how close is that to the border?? walking or driving distance??
 
as far as i remmember you need turkish (TRNC) ID to get a license. I don't think neither cyprus nor british ID will get the job done.
