Hi everyone!

I'm planning a trip in south pacific for August 2013 and I'd like to have some information about spearfishing.
I'm thinking to go in Samoa islands for many reasons (culture, nature...) but I can also change destination.
How is spearfishing in Samoa? Any restriction for tourists? Furthermore, I won't carry with me my equipement. Are there any rentals?
Which is the best place in south pacific for spearfishing? I read this thread (http://forums.deeperblue.com/intern...rip-reports/39317-south-pacific-spearing.html), but maybe a lot of things changed in so many years, expecially in the regulation.

I usually practice reef spearfishing, till 10-20 meters (30-60 ft).

Thank you in advance!!!

Hi there,
No ristrictions on Spearfishing here in Samoa but most villages do not allow any fishing & surfing on Sundays.
Reef fishing (snapper, GT) you can do from shore but bigger fish (Mahi mahi, dogtooth etc) usally requires a boat to get out to the best spots.
A lot of the resorts will let you rent snorkeling gear but not spearfishing gear. PM me if you head this way & I'm sure we can find a spare gun to borrow.

Hi smee,
thank you very much for your reply!
I'm considering my trip, since I discovered it is very expensive coming to samoa from Italy, much more than I thought!!
But probably I will come. In case I won't esitate to contact you for a speargun!!
Thank you again,
pingub

Hey, I'm heading to Upolu tomorrow from nz for 10days or so. Will be bring my speargun, as general consensus online is that it's worth it. Has anyone got any locations or tips they could share with me for beach dives spots as can't really afford boat trip. I am a newbie to the sport and have no weights yet so nothing too deep. Any info would be great. Thanks Guy.
