Hi, can anyone clarify if it is legal to go spearfishing in Spain, regards Paul

Hi Paul, the red tape in Spain is always a problem. For the region I am in ( Alicante) to apply for a 'underwater' fishing license and spear legally you will need to have medical and also insurance.
I d suggest finding a local dive center and speaking to them, they will also know where you can and cannot fish.

Hi , thanks for that, I will find a dive store as soon as I get there, kind regards Paul

In general in mainland spain spearing is allowed in the sea everywhere (very few exceptions).
Canary islands - there are spearo zones put in place in 1986 by govmnt, where only 20% of each island is spearable. There are maps of zones online. You can easily search 'zona pescasubmarina X' where is an island or region.

You need licence and follow fish quota and size minimums. Few years back each region licence was valid in other regions, currently idk.
For licence you need medical examination that is a bullshit waste of money but nonetheless required.

Im based in Canary Islands if you plan to spear here.
