Spearfishing in Tenerife

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I'm new to freediving and spearfishing but am heading out to Tenerife in October for a short holiday. I will be staying in Playa de las americas. I've done a little research and I'm not sure where the best place to go is for some freediving and spearfishing. I understand spearfishing is restricted to specific areas.

Billybob (William)

No idea about spearfishing in tenerife but for evening food take a walk around the corner to Los Cristianos, half way along the beach is a small resturant called the "Sant Deiago" (?) of all the places Ive eaten that one takes the biscuit! Its right in front of the fountain :)

Sorry BillyBob, but I don't know where the 'best places' are as I am still very much a novice. I have really only hunted in Abades on a very quiet beach where it is tolerated more than allowed. Then next beach along from Abades is Porris De Abona and that is definately a legal spear fishing site but I have only been there once for a snorkel and ended up swimming with a turtle. Another site closer to the Tenerife South Airport is a place called El Medano, now I have also been here but only once and four spanish spearo's came out of the water with quite a few fish but I didn't have any luck. Another place I know of is in the North and it is called Bajamar and Punto de Hidalgo, these two are very rocky and apparently there is a reef just offshore here, but I have never been so don't know much about it. There are two other legal sites but I don't know where they are, and there is another place I know of where it is tolerated and that is La Caleta and it is supposed to be very good there. I friend of mine snorkels there regularly.

Hope this offers some help

Thank you for your help but my spanish is very poor I have worked long hours since I have been here so I haven't had much of a chance to learn the language yet, but hopefully some day soon I can start getting lessons as sometimes I feel quite ignorant.

Any of you can help me?
I am in Las Palmas and have been here 6 weeks (am living here now) learning spanish and need freediving/spearo contacts...

I dive over 60 metres and teach AIDA courses...

Cheers!!

Hi Dave,

I was looking at freediving/snorkelling in Tenerife and noticed a post by stating that you are in Tenerife and a freediving instructor. I am a beginner but I am looking for some tuition or even just a guide to some of the more interesting sites easily accessed from Playa De Las Americas. I will be in Tenerife from Wednesday 22/2/06 to the following Wednesday. Are you available for tuition and if so how much do you charge.

William:)

William, soory I am a bit late!!
I am in Gran Canaria not Tenerife. Let me know if you are over here again and I will let you know about an AIDA course.
