Yes! 5 of us came out last year in May... where do you want to hunt?
Erik

Double yes.

Where are you from Isaac?

I am from Saskatoon, Sask, though I work in the oil patch of northern Alberta for most of the year. I am glad to see there are other people intrested in spearfishing. In regards to were, I am down for checkin out pritty much any lakes in Saskatchewan. If you guys no of any lakes with good vis that would be nice. Feel free to post lakes or ideas for may long spearfishin in this thread.

Cheers

Isaac

I fish/ freedive mostly turtle lake (horible vis but I got a cabin there) and lake defenbaker because it is close to Saskatoon. There are some good lakes up north as well.

Last year we were at Meadow Lake Park and hit 4 or 5 different spots.
I belive Little Strawberry lake had splake. The vis was easily 10 metres+.

I don't know about easily 10 meters plus but the vis was good tell around 30 feet when it turned to just murk that you couldn't see anything in.
I would like to do some diving for lake trout this year so if we can find a lake with good visibility at depth that would be a real bonus.
On May Long weekend in the Northern Park of Sask. it took a long time for the day to heat up. Hard to get heat into your body after diving. May be better to go in July or August if you want to do two more more dives in a day.

I'll put a 10 metre line on my gun and see if I can shoot you to prove it lol!

This trip just got more interesting!

As far as temperature I can't imagine that it's going to be better virtually anywhere we go. I'd just like to get out in May and start to get warmed up for the June trip. Sask works as well as anywhere for me.

Last year water temps were ok actually, but it started raining non-stop so me and Jimbo went home as we weren't really prepared.
The vis in that lake was stunning... we couldn't find the fish until a local angler told Brianna and hubby where to look.
This year we'll be ready and will stay, hell or high water... both of which would be fine actually.

ya I havnt done much fishing in meadow lake area. If you are looking for trout there is a lake called white swan lake, it has the best vis in all of sask, and the vis is good all the way down to 35m plus. There are lots of rainbow trout but they are around depths of 80-110ft. This is deeper then I normaly like to fish but I would be willing to try. In regards to temp, northern lakes are colder 38-50 degree range. Lake defenbaker is one of the most popolar spear fising places cause its more southern with very large fish walleye, jack, rainbow and many more. I would be intrested in heading up to Little strawberry.

Cheers

Isaac

p.s sorry for any typo's I am in a little rush.

The air temps were what bothered me. It was around feezing tell late in the morning.
Swan lake sounds interesting but that doesn't sound at all like rainbow trout being that deep. Spearfishing at 80-110 ft is some serious diving especially in cold water. I would need some serious practice before I attempted that. At those depths it easy to get over your limits.

I'll gladly hunt those depths if there is reasonable vis and there are fish there... I know that trout are spooky as hell, and we spend lots of time as it is on Snipe hunts hahaha.
Where is White Swan Isaac?

I am pumped! Diving starts next month Hooyah!

White Swan in about an hour and half north of Prince Albert. It may not be the best lake for a my long trip, for it is probly one of the coldest lakes. The local scuba guys do all there diving there but they wont go there intill late June because of water temps. I fished white swan last year when the trout were just about to come up to spawn befor they closed the lake. You pritty much have to go deep. I had no luck cause we did't have a boat at the time and we were swiming a copal miles offshore and only go to about 50-60 ft deep. Lots of people who practice tec diving have seen tones of fish at the 30m plus mark. I would be more willing to try this lake in July or Aug. when the water temp is warmer and I am back into diving shape, rather then do it on the first dive of the year. Your idea of little strawberry intrestes me sence I have never fished that lake.

I think Little Strawberry would be good then for May Long Weekend- sounds good.
I cant remember the campsite name but we'll dig it up.

Sounds really good to me, there are lots of other good lakes in the Meadow area to I have heard.

I looked up White Swan and remember my conversation with messey in the summer the fish at those depths in Swan lake are Lake Trout. That Lake is used to supply Lake Trout for many of the Sask. Lakes. Messey has a Trailer or RV on that Lake. Would be worth giving a go if you have a boat with a good depth finder and can spearfish at those depths.

Can't wait, any accomodations other than camping close by?

There is a town to the south. I think it around 30-50 km away. One thing about the campground we stayed I didn't find out tell the day I left was that they had free showers that were decently warm.

lake trout sounds better, my bad, umm in regards to the depth might be a little over my head inless I get training alot harder. I dunno I am pulling like 100m dynamic right now and I got a 4:47 static but I dunno if I am in shape for white swan right away. I did do some scuba/freediving at white swan and there is cabins for rent and a nice camp ground. I don't have a boat at the moment that I could take there. I think you can rent little fishing boats.
