I was thinking of bring up lake Defenbaker. Close to camp grounds and cabins, you can swim out from shore. They used to farm trout there, so there is lots of rainbows and lake trout, there is walleye, northern pike and many more. I the spring there is usualy good vis 15- 20 ft, pritty much every big fish has come outa that lake. Depth from 15- 60 ft plus if you want to go deep. Attached are some pictures of some walleye some locals shot last year. I think this lake has a little for everybody.

Isaac that looks like an excellent spot! Nice looking walleye too!

I think Diefenbaker would be a better spot for your May Long weekend trip. I talked to Isaac and there are Walleye, Trout, Lakers, Pike, and Burbot in the lake. The hunting is usually done deeper then 15 feet. This sounds much better then shooting splake from the surface. With deeper spearfishing, good variety of fish and good visibility sounds like an awesome lake for a trip.
I think one of the Sask. walleye tournaments in held in this lake.

Here a Map of the Area: http://www.lakediefenbakertourism.com/files/1.pdf

That looks good too, even better. As long as there's an open campground then that looks like the place to go for me!

I think the next step then is to decide what part of the lake we want to visit. Isaac can you tell us about the places where you have dived and if there are any campgrounds close by? You are the one with the local knowledge so if we dived an area you know that would be a bonus. Do you know where we can get a depth chart for the lake?
Please check if possible to make sure they are open for the May long weekend. Stranger things have happened before.

Well I have not camped there because I am from saskatoon and I can drive there and back easy in a day, but I will camp there on May long, I have only fished this Lake twice, one time last May and once Last July. I am not sure exactly were on the lake I fished, I fallowed directions from a avid scuba diver who dives that lake. Which I will be talkiing to about water depths and other areas to fish. In the two days I speared this lake I shot maybe 9 good sized walleye and one trout in about 10m of water. I am going to have to talk o alot of the local scuba guys because they dive that lake every weekend for practice and thy no were the fish and what depths they are at the time of year. I will start making phone calls to get some more info.

He is right by the dam, I have fished only way past the other side of the dam.

hey guys

I have to diffently say that the whiteswan area is the best fishing i have ever had. 64 lakes within a hours drive, those are just the ones i have maps for most with vis better then 5m some with 15-20. In white swan the lake trout sit at about 72ft in the summer and there usually about 10lbs. they dont get as big as in other lakes but they are the best trout i have ever tasted. i am going there on may 4th to open up my trailer for the summer and hunt trout there are about a dozen lakes that open early anyone is welcome to join me for the weekend

dief is a nice lake, vis can be hit and miss because of the curnt but lots of fish and huge rainbow trout

the water is fairly warm i was there second weekend of may last year around the dam and a bay by the interprative centre that has huge pike in it i was in the water for 2 2 hour sessions and it wasent to bad. SERM does not have a depth chart for that lake but here is all the depth charts there are for sask.

Bathymetric Maps

when you guys get there you should stop at the interpretive centre and talk to the ppl running it about where ppl are catching. I also try and find a oriental guy fishing along the shore talking to him is hard sometimes cause most ppl dont want to tell you where the fish are

sounds like you guys should have a good weekend
