Spearfishing Phuket

I'm staying in Patong from 25th Feb to the 2nd March. I am keen to try some local beach spots for a few bass or snapper. If anyone is interested in joining me or has any advice regarding tactics or hunting spots it would be great to hear from you. I have heard a lot about shore hunting around Phuket being a waste of time as the area has been overfished but I really just want one or two Bass for the pan which I can't imagine is too much to ask.
