Hi all,
I am over here for 2 years for work, i am based at Akrotiri and am after any information as to where i can get any equipment as i left all of mine back in the UK after not having enough baggage allowance.
Also any info on any spots to start off with, i Dont mind travelling at all, if you could get back in touch either on here or via PM i would be very greatful.

Many thanks

Ash

Hi Ash
maybe try the Zenobia? I've never been but it's supposed to be amazing - it's a bit deep so you'll definitely need a competent buddy...

I've seen some interesting locations around Paphos - probably good idea to look on scuba diving sites. I usually dive around cape greko and protaras. Again I think dive shops are your best bet to explain how to get there etc or of course even better if you go with a local. I'll give you a shout in June when I am there next.. :)

For equipment, I've been to a dive shop near paralimni (don't remember the name but it's on the right before you reach the village). It had equipment for spearos, so you can definitely pick up fins, mask (dont remember seeing many low volume ones) and snorkel there - I didn't look for a suit...i am sure there will be a shop nearer you though.

Actually your best bet for everything will be to get in touch with some Freediving schools. I know Savvas Savva is running one in Limassol (drop me a PM if you want an intro) and also I came across one called Stelios ILia in larnaca on the web before... I am sure they'll help you both wig locations and equipment.

Hope this helps!

Hi Ash,
Actually today opened a Fishing & Boat show at My Mall Shoping center 5 min from Akrotiri. I am sure if you visit you can find anything you need!!

Thankyou very much for that spearfishinglog, i will have to pop down there on my day off.

hey simos, i managed to find a shop that actually had wuite abit of spearo kit in, its called medex and is on omonia ave in limassol. i managed to pick up all the kit i require.
i managed a quick dive the other day to get back in the water and used to breath holding again, not much seen but i saw rather alot of what i thought to be garfish...

Simos, are there many free diving schools around this area?

Ash

Hi Ash - great you got the kit. Apart from the ones I mentioned, I don't know of others I'm afraid but bare in mind that I've been living in London for a long time now.. I'd give Savvas a shout, I'm sure he can point you to the right direction....

Thanks very much simos.

Cant wait to get back in the water and have a look around and see what cyprus has to offer.

Whats the best size gun to use out here?

Hi Ashly,
From my personal experience, i believe a 95-105 cm gun with the right setup is an all-rounder and you can catch 99% of all prey in the Cyprus shores. I left 1% out .... thats the occasional 100kg Bluefin Tuna lol

Well it seems then that there is more fish variety over here then:)

You can easily find in Cyprus a wide range of fishes ranging from sea bream, bass, mullet, groupers, amberjacks, baracuda etc. You just have to pick a good spot to spearfish. I would suggest a nice rocky bottom like the akrotiri shore. Why dont you try the area infront of the Acrotiri Hospital, one of my favorites :)

I have had a look around the hospital and it does look inviting, what is good aswell is that i work at the hospital so its easy for me to take a dip up here.
how far out and how deep do you need to go by the hospital?

Hi, I am going to Akrotiri for 2 weeks on 15th April as my daughter lives there. This will be my first visit.can you tell me where the nearest port police are to get my Greek spearfishing licence renewed?
George, where is your shop? What is its name & the name of the mall? Is it possible to either hire a boat or be able to go with someone local to access the better/remote spots?
thanks
Jon

George, I also forgot to ask, do you sell Sikaflex 356? If not can you tell me where I can get some? I understand theres a freediving/spearo shop in Limassol that stocks it but I dont recall its name or where it is.
