Spearfishing This Weekend

Hi All,

I am looking to start spearfishing in the UK, I have had a week or so in france, great fun lots of fish, but none in the UK.

I have my own equipment etc... and am a competent freediver, but I have no knowledge of where to spearfish in the UK. i am looking for somewhere within 2 1/2 hours drive of Walsall.

Anyone out there spearfishing this weekend.

when i was in the UK, i went to a dive shop and the guy actually looked at me very weird for asking him if they had any spearguns in stock. it happened in two separate shops about 100kms apart. maybe its just my lack of knowledge but i think they frown upon spearfishing.

Hi,

Many UK divers frown upon spearfishing, this may be because spearing on regular scuba diving wrecks etc...is dangerous if there are other divers around and obviously depletes the fish there to look at.

I swim at a diving club swimming pool meet, they seem quite happy to advise me where the areas are with good visibility and reefs within swimming distance of the shore.

So there is nothing to worry about.
